Encouraging health and wellbeing

The Foundation is focussing on the promotion of health and the saving of lives by supporting the advancement of people's physical and mental wellbeing to relieve illness and poor health.

We support and encourage research and innovation to ensure the latest advances in healthcare and treatment are available to all.

Although the Foundation has only just been established, we are working in alignment with our business partners, and the projects we are showcasing here are those that have been supported.

£1 million research partnership with The Christie Charity

The Peel Group is in partnership with The Christie charity to help fund vital research into urological cancers. This partnership will fund two clinical researchers and a technician to join The Christie’s Uro-oncology department to oversee new studies in prostate, bladder and kidney cancer which it hopes will lead to advances in research that will have a positive impact on the future treatment of patients.

The Christie’s Uro-oncology department is at the forefront of cancer diagnosis and treatment in the UK and is a global leader in research. Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer affecting men, while bladder cancer is in the top 10 most common cancers for both men and women, along with kidney cancer.

The Peel Group support has been fundamentally important in developing and expanding research in to Prostate and other men’s cancers at The Christie and the Manchester Cancer Institute. This highly successful programme has been instrumental in changing prostate cancer treatment approaches throughout the world and our programme of discovery has added new knowledge to the field of prostate cancer.

Professor Ananya Choudhury, Chair and Honorary Consultant in Clinical Oncology, said: “Such significant investment is extremely welcome and will allow us to further our understanding of urological cancers. We have a long and proud history of research in this field and in order to better understand these types of cancer we need to continue to invest in academic talent. We have made some significant strides in research and this wonderful partnership will help us continue to strive for further improvements to cancer treatment.”

Professor Noel Clarke, Consultant Urological Surgeon, said: “We are very grateful to The Peel Group for this investment, and we are delighted to be able to invest in new research posts which will have a significant impact on research”.
